David Lloyd Johnston's parents were Lloyd Allen Johnston and Dorothy Stonehouse.  

In 1938 Lloyd A. Johnston was a clerk at Cochrane-Dunlop Hardware in Sudbury.  Lloyd and his wife Dorothy lived at a house at 110 Larch Street in Sudbury.  In 1939 Lloyd Johnston was the Assistant Manager at Cochrane-Dunlop Hardware in Copper Cliff.  The family lived at 4 Serpentine Street (i.e. lived above/behind the hardware store).

For the period 1940 to 1944 Lloyd Johnston managed the hardware store in Copper Cliff.  Lloyd and Dorothy's son David Lloyd Johnston was born June 28, 1941 in Sudbury.  The family continued to live in Copper Cliff until David was 4 years old.

From 1945 to 1948 Lloyd Johnston was Retail Manager of the Cochrane-Dunlop Hardware store in Sudbury and the family moved to a house at 163 Bloor Street in Sudbury.

In 1949 Lloyd Johnston was the Retail Store Manager for Edward Oil and Rubber in Sudbury.  The family continued to live at 163 Bloor Street, Sudbury until about 1950.
